During a routine scientific survey near the Sun, the crew of the LRS Vanguard-6 encounters an extraordinary form of intelligent life unlike anything humanity has ever discovered. Composed entirely of living plasma, the mysterious being survives within the intense environment of a star and communicates not through sound, but through patterns of light, mathematics, and energy.
Safely escorted to Milky Way Space Station 111 inside a protective magnetic containment field, the Living Light begins humanity’s first peaceful dialogue with a stellar intelligence. As Captain Larry Thebassman, Captain Loretta A. Smith, and the crew listen with curiosity and respect, they discover that understanding can begin long before two civilizations speak the same language.
